The Odour Unit is the only odour testing and consulting company in Australia with a fully transportable odour testing laboratory. The facility is identical to the laboratories the company operates at its Sydney and Perth offices and consists of a dynamic olfactometer, odour-free air treatment system and sampling equipment. Odour assessors are sourced locally and trained and calibrated before being used in the laboratory.

The ability to locate the laboratory close to the odour source removes the need for sample transport to a centralised laboratory, and the associated issues of sample degradation with time. It also results in a high level of responsiveness and flexibility in the service to clients.

The facility has been used to service a major client carrying out a pilot dryer trial in Pittsburgh, USA. On another occasion the facility was relocated to Calgary, Canada, where it serviced another industrial process trial. The photo shows the olfactometer in use at Calgary. Despite the costs in relocating the facility and staff overseas, the operation has been found to be competitive with sourcing equivalent odour testing services locally.
