* SAMPLING

Although conceptually very simple, odour sampling is often inherently difficult to carry out well, and can be the cause of erroneous odour emissions results. Its importance is often overlooked.

With 11 years of experience in sampling of all types of odorous emissions, The Odour Unit has the capability to collect representative samples from every type of point and area source of odour. Features of our sampling capability include -

* * The use of single use, Nalophan sampling bags
* * The conventional 'pump and drum' sampling method
* * The ability to sample wet and hot stack emissions, using the SupaDiluta400, an innovative stainless steel and Teflon syringe sampling device developed by TOU
* * The use of both wind tunnel and isolation odour flux hoods for sampling odorous emissions from solid and liquid area sources and
* * Routine measurement of emission flow rate, temperature and relative humidity for every sample that is collected.

Every sample is collected with the objective of determining the odour emission rate of the emission, since this is what ultimately affects off-site odour impact.

The Odour Unit is widely acknowledged for its ability to carry out comprehensive odour emission inventories of complex, multi-source industrial plants (see Case Studies).
