Field-Based Ambient Odour Intensity Assessments
The Odour Unit specialises in providing a wide range of expert odour inspection and consultancy services. Working with clients throughout Australia, we offer advanced Field Based Ambient Odour Intensity Assessments (FAOAs) based on the German Standard VDI 3940 using the standard ranking set by VDI 3882.
These Empirical Assessments provide real-time ground-truthing of off-site odour impacts allowing for a detailed assessment and understanding of odour plumes and envelopes.
FAOAs can also be used to ground-truth/calibrate a dispersion modelling projection.
FAOAs are designed to compare observations of odour frequency and intensity against an odour criterion that can be determined specific for a given odour source allowing the maximum level of protection against off-site odour impacts. FAOAs undertaken over an annual assessment period provide odour hours used to determine the extent of an odour impact.
